WordPress – the almighty king of the CMS world

We have said it before, but it always bears repeating. WordPress is the most popular CMS in the world, the emperor of an empire spanning millions of sites. Here are some facts about WordPress that will make you sit up and take note.

1. Half of the Top 100 blogs in the word are run on WordPress.

WordPress isn’t the only option on there, so when you think that 48 out of 100 sites run the CMS, it’s pretty impressive. CNN uses it. eBay uses it. Even the New York Times uses it. If you’re looking to start up a blog, you’re in good company on WordPress.

2. 74,652,825 sites use WordPress

That’s number has probably doubled since you read that statement. Or maybe not, we may be exaggerating. Even so, it’s a lot.

3. There are 40 Translations of WordPress

This fact goes to show exactly how global WordPress is. While you might not speak Croatian, Estonian or French, somewhere out there there’s a version of WordPress that does. Not only that, the team at WordPress is always coming up with new translations to ensure that everyone is catered for.

4. WordPress.com is more popular than Amazon

In the US, WordPress.com gets 126 million unique visitors every month, while poor old Amazon only gets 96million. We bet it feels really left out.

5. WordPress.com employs 229 people

It is hard to believe but the site that puts Amazon in the dust in terms of visitors only has, for its size, a skeleton team. It’s small enough to be considered an SME, even though it has an international reach. Impressive!
