Top Ten WordPress Resources


If you are looking at teaching yourself WordPress or if you want to increase your skill set and add blogging to your list of talents, there are lots of fantastic online resources to point you in the right direction.

The internet is full of lots of great examples of tutorials to help people learn new skills, but to help you sort the wheat from the chaff, we’ve compiled a list of our favourite resources here at Elementary Digital to get the ball rolling. You’ll be an expert by tea time.


If you want to get to grips with WordPress, the best place to start is WordPress itself. There are basic guides, hundreds of tutorials, a history of the platform, forums to chat to other users and more.

If it’s advice and news as well as tutorials that you are looking for, then .net is a great resource. With something for everyone, from beginners looking to engage with WordPress for the first time, to experts looking to master the system, you can find everything you need here.

  1. Lynda

If you prefer video learning to reading, then Lynda, set up by husband and wife team Bruce Heavin and Lynda Weinman, have complied the most extensive video library full of tutorials on all sorts of subjects. There’s training for every level of WordPress user. Some of the tutorials are free, but to access them all you’ll need a paid subscription.

  1. WooThemes

Set up by three WordPress enthusiasts from opposite corners of the worlds, Woothemes is now a hotbed of activity, with designers and developers creating beautiful themes and plugins to ensure that you are getting the most from your WordPress experience.

  1. Digging into WordPress

The blog of the book of the same name, this resource adds searchability and is a great quick reference. If you need snippets of code, you can copy and paste them from here. The book is a definitive guide for those looking to learn about WordPress.

  1. wpbeginner

Wpbeginner does what it says on the tin. Aimed at those who want to get stuck into WordPress but who don’t k now where to start, there are lots of hints and tips to help those just getting started with their WordPress site.

  1. WPKube

WPKube is another good resource for someone looking for advice on themes, plugins, tools and for tutorials on WordPress. Everything is WordPress related, so you can be sure of finding what you’re looking for.

  1. Nettuts+

If you are a developer or designer looking for insights and tutorials on HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Ruby and PHP to improve your website builds, then Nettuts+ has a plethora of material for you to browse.

  1. Smashing Magazine

If you’re a web designer, you’ve no doubt heard of Smashing Magazine as it’s considered to be one the best resources around.

  1. Speckyboy

There are over 500 articles on various topics around WordPress design at Speckyboy. It’s one of the best resources out there if you’re a designer.
