London and Leeds – the home of digital marketing in the UK

Elementary Digital is digital marketing agency specialising in WordPress and Magento based in both Leeds and London, the two main hubs of digital marketing in the UK today.

With the digital field becoming one of the top sources of revenue for the country, representing £72b or 5% of the UK economy, it’s easy to see why people are getting excited about digital marketing, and why there are hip digital marketing agencies are growing all across the country. It’s a very different picture to how the cities used to look.

Historical City Industries

Following the Industrial Revolution, the populations of cities exploded as people moved away from their traditional lives on farms, moving into the city where work in factories meant that there was much more money to be made in Leeds or London than out in field watching the cows. The cotton, flax, milling and even brewing industries boomed, bringing prosperity to Britain and helping to fund the empire that stretched around the world.

This drive for innovation and new technology still stands today, with many spaces once occupied by these industries now home to people in the digital and technology industries.

Digital Hubs

The digital sector in London grew by 16.6% between 2009 and 2012, and companies in London attracted a huge £1.47bn in investment in this time. Office space has doubled over the past few decades in the city as more and more people pour in looking to add their voices to the digital conversation. London is the main hub in the Uk to the fintech industry, with many people specialising in financial technology and ecommerce.

Additionally, Leeds has gained an exceptional reputation as the second home to the digital marketing industry outside of London. In 2005, the digital industry was highlighted as a key sector through which to rejuvenate the finances of the once secondary industry-led city.

The digital sector is growing at a rate of knots. Thousands of hopeful graduates enter the field every year, bringing with them new trends and new innovations that transform the industry on a day-to-day basis.

With all brands needing a digital presence, from websites and social media, to online stores and design, the digital sector looks to grow even further throughout the 21st century. Digital marketing is just one small slice of the digital sector pie, and having a presence in both London and Leeds means that we here at Elementary Digital are at the heart of the sector, both in web design and WordPress sites, through to ecommerce with Magento and more.

Innovation and technology have been at the heart of Britain’s work life since the invention of the cotton jenny. With the digital field expanding, there’s a lot to look forward to in the future. We say bring it on!
