If you are lucky enough to be jetting off somewhere on your summer holidays this year, then you may be wondering how you can keep your WordPress website updated whilst you are away. On your holidays you want to be able to sit back and relax and not to have to worry about your website. Schedule Any Posts in Advance

If you are going to be away on holiday, you will definitely want to make good use of the post scheduling feature in WordPress. This handy feature allows you to create a post and then schedule it to be uploaded onto your site at a later date.

Schedule in Your Social Media

Following on from the last tip, you can also schedule in your social media posts too. You can set your scheduled content to then be scheduled on social media which will save you a job.

Emailing Subscribers

Do you have a mailing list? Then you will want to keep your subscribers updated whilst you are away on holiday. Many email providers offer services in which you can schedule in emails to be distributed while you are away. There are different plugins that you can use such as Subscribe by Email which will automatically email all of your subscribers whenever a scheduled post is published.

Updating Your Software

No one wants to be sitting next to the pool on holiday worrying about software updates. However, if there is something such as a big security update, then you will not want to risk your site becoming insecure. So, before, you go, make sure that you are automating your software updates so that they will be updated automatically.

Updating Your Themes and Plugins

Before you head off on holiday, it is a food idea to use an automated service so that you can relax and have all theme and plugin updates happen automatically, so you don’t have to spend any time worrying about them. You can pick and choose which plugins and themes you want to be automatically updated and then you will receive an email each time this happens to let you know that it has been completed.

Keep WordPress Core Updated

If you have a great website, then you shouldn’t really have to worry about automating core WordPress updates as this will take away the stress on holiday from having to worry about it. Minor updates will be automatically made but you will need to personally choose this for any major updates. You can either do this through editing your wp-config.php file or by installing a plugin.
