How to Use WordPress Desktop App

Are you looking to find out more about how you can use the WordPress desktop app? Then you have come to the right place! This app was originally developed for WordPress customers and allows them to manage their sites from their desktop PC. Here, we will take you through how to set up the WordPress desktop app and also how to use it.

Check Statistics

Once you have connected the WordPress desktop app, you will have access to a range of useful statistics. This allows you to access a variety of stats including the traffic coming to your site, insight into visitor behaviour, monitor site activity, search terms and link clicks just to name a few. You can also look at statistics for years previously and compare to see how your website is performing and growing.

Creating New Posts and Pages

In the WordPress desktop app, you will have the chance to create new content and the app will list all of your pages, posts and custom posts. To add a new post or page, all you need to do is hit the ADD button and for blog posts you also have the option to choose the WRITE button instead. This will take you to a new screen where you can upload and write content. This will already be familiar to those who have used the WordPress editor previously and you can also edit post titles and URLs here too, plus format content. Want to add in a little bit of coding, simply move over to HTML mode. Here, you can also add media files, schedule in posts, change categories and tags, plus much, much, more. You can publish this post as soon as you are reading in the app!

Manage Existing Content

What’s great about the WordPress desktop app is that you can also manage existing content on your website including drafts and any scheduled posts. Plus, you can preview, duplicate, share and delete content.

Manage Themes

In the themes section of the website, you can install, upload and change themes. In WordPress desktop app, the only themes that you will be able to install are those on the WordPress website and any theme from the directory needs to be uploaded manually or it must be installed from your website. Themes can also be customised from within the app.

Manage Comments and Users

In the WordPress desktop app, you can also moderate discussions taking place and you can modify who has access to your site.  This can be found under the Comments and People tabs.

Edit Settings

In the Settings area of the WordPress desktop app, you will also be able to control all important options for your website. You can find lots of familiar settings here such as changing site titles, taglines and controlling the comment options. You can also find import and export tolls here, however, some things that you may want to change need to be accessed from your main site.
