How to Set Up a PayPal Gateway in Magento 2

Nowadays, PayPal is widely regarded as one of the most renowned online payment service organisations across the world.  This payment option offers high levels of convenience and security that easily simplifies the process of paying online.  With eCommerce companies now trying to attract new users, offering a way to integrate PayPal with your store can be a huge incentive.

For some users, Magento 2 PayPal gateway integration may sound like a complex process, however, this tutorial offers you a simple step-by-step guide that will make this complex process easy and straightforward.  All you need to do is follow the steps below.

Setting Up Your Magento 2 PayPal Gateway Integration

The first thing you will need to do is login to your Magento 2 Admin panel.  Once you have opened your Admin panel, you can then expand your store menu.  From here, you will need to click on the configuration option.  Within this section, you will need to choose the Sales option from the left section of the navigation bar.

Once you have opened this section, you can then click on payment methods.  In addition, you will need to choose your target country.  For this next step, you will be required to move to the Merchant Location Panel.  You can then scroll through the drop down menu to select the merchant country you need.  After selecting your Merchant Location, you will then be able to configure your PayPal settings.

Configuring your PayPal settings is surprisingly easy.  First up, you can click on the PayPal Express Checkout option on the Configure Button.  You will then be prompted to create a PayPal account with all the necessary details.  Once this step is complete you can enable the Test mode.  To do this, you will need to click on ‘Yes’ for seamless testing and then hit the ‘No’ button when you have finished testing.

When your system is trying to establish a new connection with the Proxy server you will need to click the ‘Yes’ button.  After, you can configure your IP address.  To do this. You will need to enter the port number for Proxy Port.  Now, you can choose the enable option.  Enabling this option will mean that your customers can receive payment through PayPal credit.

Basic PayPal Gateway Integration Settings

Once you have got to this stage, there are four different parameters to consider under the basic settings:

  1. Title: You will need to enter the name for your chosen payment methodology
  2. Sort Order: This basic option is for sorting various payment option at checkout
  3. Payment Action: This defines how the payment will be processed. This encompasses Sale, Authorisation and Order options
  4. Product Details Page: Here, you can choose whether PayPal will be displayed on your product details page.

Advanced PayPal Gateway Integration Settings

The advanced settings include a number of parameters including debugging options, SSL verification, PayPal guest checkout, billing address requirements and skip order review steps.

You can then click the Save Config button.  Once this is complete you will be able to receive payments through PayPal in your Magento store.
