Guide to Creating Bundle Products in Magento 2

Liam Firth

eCommerce sites using Magento 2 have the fantastic option to create bundle products! This is a good way to offer customised options but all on the same product page. This can also work great for products with multiple elements. Essentially, a bundle product is simply a customised set of products that you can choose to best suit you.

What Exactly are Bundle Products?

When it comes to bundle products, there are three main rules that they should always adhere too. The first is that items in a bundle can be two product types. This can either be a Visual Product or it can be a Simple Product. More key information about bundle products is that the price, weight and SKU can either be set at a fixed value or at a dynamic value.  Finally, these bundled items can either be shipped separately or they can be shipped together.

Examples of a Bundle Kit

A great example of bundle products could be a yoga kit! You could advertise a price range and it is up to the customer to choose which products from the bundle they would like to order. Another example could be a sports recovery kit bundle. In this bundle, you could find a foam roller, a recovery drink and a sprite foam roller. All of these products are classed as a Simple Product. This is the example that we will use throughout this article below.

With this product bundle, there are plenty of different options that you could provide for the customer. This could be different types of foam rollers, different flavours of the recovery drink, or different colours of foam rollers.

Creating the Simple Products

Creating a bundle product is quite an easy process that is not overcomplicated. Firs up, you will need to log into the Magneto Admin. You can then choose ‘Products’ and then under ‘Inventory’ you can choose ‘Catalogue’. Then, choose ‘Add Product’ and next choose ‘Simple Product from the drop-down menu.

There is not too much to it after that! Simply complete the required fields and these are marked with an asterisk. This will allow you to save the product. You can then key in any other relevant product information that you have at this time. Don’t worry, however, if you don’t have all the details as you can always come back and amend this later.

The product name, SKU, weight, price, stock status, images and videos are the additional details you can fill in here. With stock status, you will have to make sure it’s set to ‘IN STOCK.’ This will ensure it shows as being in stock on the front-end. Furthermore, with the images and videos section, you can upload an image here simply by dragging it in.

Hit the ‘Save’ button and then create the Bundle Product!

Creating the Bundle Products

To create the bundle products, hit ‘Products’ and then ‘Catalogue’ again. Next, hit ‘Add Product’ then ‘Bundle Product.’ Then just, like with the Simple Products, fill out the required fields and then head on over to the ‘Bundle Items’ section. Here, choose the shipping method and then use the ‘Add Option’ button to add products to the bundle. Fill out the required fields such as ‘Option Title’ and then click to ‘Add Products to Option.’ Click on ‘Add Selected Products’ and then repeat these steps for each product. Hit ‘Save’ and that’s you created a bundle product!
