Are you looking to find out how to automatically change SALT keys in WordPress? SALT keys are essentially encrypted code that secures your login information and it is also known as WordPress security authentication. A great way to enhance the security of your WordPress website is to automatically change your SALT keys. This can be done without having to use any code and here we are taking you through this process.

What Exactly Are SALT Security Keys?

Are you unsure of what exactly SALT security keys are? These are basically WordPress security keys that will keep your login information in an encrypted form. This means that WordPress will save any login information in cookies. However, the problem with this is that this login information can be compromised if you are using public computers.

To avoid this risk, you will want to ensure that your security keys are manually changed from the wp-config.php file. This can be found in the root folder of the WordPress website.

It is recommended that you change these codes regularly as this will make your website safer and improve its security. Changing it every three to six months is how often you should be changing the codes and these SALT keys can be manually generated from the secret-key service.

It is not a difficult process to change SALT keys manually, however, it can be time-consuming – especially when you are doing it regularly! This is because you have to manually edit the core and file and then upload via FTP. If you are hard-pressed for time, it is a good idea to set up your SALT keys in WordPress to change automatically.

Changing WordPress SALT Keys Automatically

To start off, install the Salt Shaker plugin. After you have activated this, you then need to visit Tools and Salt Shaker. This will be in your WordPress admin and will let you set a schedule to change the SALT keys.

Here, you will be presented with different options to change your SALT keys automatically. You can choose how often you want them to be changed from the drop-down menu. This can be daily, weekly or monthly. Hit the CHANGE NOW button if you want to simply change the SALT keys manually.

It is important to note that each time you change your WordPress SALT keys, you and all other users will be automatically logged out from the website. This happens across all of your devices. However, you can easily log back into the WordPress dashboard by heading on over to the WordPress login page.
